Ikarians

Ikarians are a sapient race in the Big Blue. They are an avian folk native to Cerulea, and are also known as Vultures. Ikarians possess feathered bodies, fan-like tails and talons for feet. In place of arms, they have wings, allowing them to fly, but the ends of their wings can also be used to grip things like hands. Similarly, from the knees down, their legs resemble that of a parrot, with scaly skin and long claws.

Most Ikarians are hollow-boned, meaning that they are light and manoeuvrable, but not very sturdy, nor capable of as much brute force. They are also unable to swim as they are extremely buoyant, although some hunt by diving into the water, catching fish, and flying back out.

Some Ikarians are affected by a rare disease that hardens their bones and makes them too dense to take off (although they are still able to glide short distances). They are more able to swim conventionally, as humans do, though are not that specialised for it and therefore lack much agility in the water. These Ikarians are also more physically robust and do not break bones easily.

Ikarians hail from the Ikarian Raidlands !. Their culture that values strength and think that it's important to be strong to survive. In addition, Vulturine culture is unusual in that it has three hegemonic genders -- warriors, protectors and scouts -- with a different set of norms and expectations attached to them, as well as having non-trinary or fluid genders. Many Ikarians live in the Tritonid Dominion, especially on Odir due to its prominence as a place of trade, and The Heap due to its proximity to the Raidlands and its similarly free-for-all society. Therefore, it is typical for them to speak Common and sometimes Tritonid in addition to their own language, Ikarian.
